From April 2019 to August 2025, Benedikt Fohr served as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil). Before joining HK Phil, he was CEO of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern (DRP) from 2006 to 2019. At the beginning of his tenure, he successfully merged the two orchestras of SR (Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken) and SWR (Rundfunkorchester Kaiserslautern) into the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie – a joint ensemble supported by both broadcasters. This merger is widely regarded as a successful and pioneering move.
Prior to that, Benedikt Fohr was General Director of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, with whom he inaugurated the new Philharmonie Luxembourg in 2005. From 1996 to 2001, he served as Secretary General of the Camerata Salzburg, and from 1989 to 1996, he was Managing Director of Ensemble Recherche Freiburg, an ensemble dedicated to the highest level of contemporary music performance.
Benedikt Fohr studied business administration at the University of Mannheim, earning his degree in 1990 as a Diplom-Kaufmann (graduate in business economics). He has served on the boards of various cultural organizations and foundations. In 2010 and 2011, he was Artistic Director of the festival "Musik im 21. Jahrhundert", and from 2015 to 2019, he was Artistic Director of the Festival International Echternach in Luxembourg. As an amateur musician, he occasionally plays the viola in orchestras and ensembles.
In September 2025, Benedikt Fohr founded Fohr Consulting, a firm specializing in consulting services for the music industry.
